Brian Runberg, Principal

Architect, AIA

In over 23 years as a practicing architect, Brian Runberg has worked to create livable, sustainable communities while carefully balancing the economic needs of each project. His dedication to taking a clear and collaborative working approach with his clients has earned him long-term relationships with some of the region's leading housing developers.

Since founding the firm in 1998, Brian has led the design of award-winning projects totaling more than 10,000 housing units and representing over $1 billion in construction. His advocacy for appropriate housing for all and passion for historic preservation are evident in the studio's body of work. Above all, Brian is known for his ability to navigate the complexities of urban development projects and for building relationships that unite on all levels-social, economic and environmental.

Prior to founding the firm, Brian was an award-winning design architect in San Francisco, California, and Sun Valley, Idaho. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has lectured in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands on the use of wood-frame technologies in mid-rise residential housing projects. Brian has served on the Queen Anne Community Council land use review committee, is founding member of the Rex Theater Foundation, and also serves on the Low Income Housing Institute fundraising committee.
