Awards: Runberg receives two Grand Awards, four Merit Awards at 2020 Gold Nugget Awards ceremony

Runberg recently took home six awards – two Grand Awards and four Merit Awards – at the virtual 2020 Pacific Coast Builders Conference Gold Nugget Awards ceremony on Friday, July 24, 2020.

The two Grand Award category honors include:

  • -Culver City Senior Housing: Best Senior Housing Community – On the Boards
  • -Gardner House and Allen Family Center: Best Affordable Housing Community – 60 du/acre or more

Culver City Senior Living

Culver City Senior Living is a 5-story, 134-unit, senior housing project in Culver City developed by SRM Development. The project features a large courtyard that opens to a public plaza and provides several retail services open to residents and community members. The exterior design incorporates a clean geometry and material palette, evoking a modern take on a classic, mid-century design.

“This project strives to turn the page on senior housing stereotypes through its contemporary design and as a demonstration project for Southern California Edison in innovative high-performance energy strategies,” said Kelly Carlson, project manager for Runberg. “We are quite honored for the recognition.”

The project is targeting LEED Gold certification with an estimated completion date in 2022.

Gardner House and Allen Family Center

Gardner House and Allen Family Center offers 95 units of one, two, and three-bedroom housing to low-income and homeless families. The Allen Family Center on the ground level provides education and employment resources. The service-enriched, community-focused housing, developed by Mercy Housing Northwest, was made possible by a grant from Seattle’s Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.

“It is an honor for our firm to be part of the team that has created such an important resource and facility for our local community,” said Constanza Marcheselli, principal. “It was such a unique and collaborative partnership that made this innovative project a reality, and it is especially rewarding to be recognized at the national level.”

From the road and adjacent Mount Baker light rail station, passersby can see the building’s bright, seven-story floral mural painted by Kenji Stoll. The artwork embeds the project into a culturally-rich neighborhood, adding street appeal that utilizes the project’s scale to serve as a new orientation point.

In addition to the two Grand Award victories, the judges recognized Runberg with four Merit Awards:
