Just steps from the soon-to-open Mountlake Terrace Link Light Rail Station, Candela Apartments is a 426-unit apartment complex spread across two buildings flanking a central courtyard.  Originally cleared by Sound Transit to make way for a temporary parking lot during construction of the new transit station, the site backs up to heavily forested Veterans Memorial Park and fronts NE 236th Street, the primary thoroughfare into downtown Mountlake Terrace.  Sited uphill of the station, this gateway project will be the first building encountered by pedestrians leaving the Link train platforms and cars entering and exiting I-5.

In addition to a significant amount of new housing, Candela will provide dynamic commercial spaces to stitch the station to the central business district east of the site. Extensive amenity spaces, from the lush courtyard and large fitness suite at grade, to the upper-level club rooms and roof decks, will provide tenants with a variety of community spaces that urban apartment buildings often do not have the space to consider.

As a result, this transit-oriented development offers convenience and density more commonly found in the city coupled with proximity to the outdoors and greenspaces only available in suburban environments.  From a sustainability standpoint, the project will absorb storm-water falling on site via natural infiltration through the courtyard soils, reducing the development’s impact on municipal infrastructure and local habitat.
