Cedar Commons II

Across the street from the Bellis Fair Mall in the Cordata area of north Bellingham, Cedar Commons II provides 64 units of affordable housing for low-income seniors. Part of a multi-phase development that includes additional affordable housing with early learning programing, the team has worked to integrate and link the two phases both in façade design and activation of shared exterior spaces. An exterior courtyard and circulation area between the two buildings creates the opportunity to draw residents outside with activities, seating, and spaces to gather and relax in a “front porch” atmosphere. A fitness center, large community room, and a wellness room are all planned for resident services. A feature stair tower is planned to house a spacious “irresistible” stair that climbs gently upwards, providing multiple landings and areas for rest and ease of egress for older residents.
