CONNECTING COMMUNITY IN NATURE
Rooted in both placemaking and placekeeping, the design draws from the site’s historic forest and wetland landscapes. Natural materials, integrated artwork, and spaces for cultural expression create a resilient, community-centered environment grounded in respect for place.
FACADE AS FOREST
Rich, dark materials at grade anchor a facade featuring staggered columns of lap siding in shades of green the seem to grow up from the earth, creating pattern and rhythm across the simplified massing that acts as a backdrop to the activity below.

A CULTURAL ANCHOR
The northern courtyard acts as an anchor point that connects residents to nature and community life. Natural landscaping, bioswales, native plantings, and a “moon meadow” gathering space are anchored by a cedar dance arbor for cultural ceremonies.

The project aims to highlight Native values through restoration of indigenous planting and providing social spaces for connection and cultural activities. A central interior spine links the outdoor spaces to a range of shared amenities, including a community room, business center, teen lounge, indoor play area, and support services. The amenity spaces are organized around two primary courtyards that connect residents to nature while supporting community life. One courtyard features a children’s play area adjacent to a shared kitchen and community room, the other prioritizes natural plantings and cultural gathering spaces.
